From the Doganaccia cableway
parking area you go down along the asphalt road, a few curves and,
near a phone relay tower, you turn to the left on a dirt track that
goes across a farm holidays and hunting area (*). Passing over a gate
you carry on downhill into a beech forest. You go over two forkings,
one to the right and the other to the left, and continue to descend.
Along the path you will find other gates that are to prevent livestock
from coming out of the enclosed pasture area, we therefore recommend
to close all gates after passing through.
After about three kilometers the road descends with wide curves
and after a downhill stretch of five kilometers you reach the municipal
aqueduct's plugs, a last gate and then the crossroads for the farm
holiday house "Andia Paradiso", our itinerary goes right,
descending towards Vizzaneta, small village
With splendid views and old buildings of historical importance and
reaches the village of Lizzano Pistoiese after about 1 km.
In St. Mary's church in Lizzano, there are enameled clay decorations
dating back to the renaissance period and the original wall paintings
on the houses belonging to a group of artists from Florence "Gruppo
Donatello". It is possible to visit the Crucifixion monumental
tombstone, made for the Lazzi family by Francesco Messina, as well
as "Saul's Conversion", an impressive work of art celebrating
the priesthood vocation of Sergeant John Murphy and the Soldiers
fallen at war on the Gothic Line, evidence of the dramatic presence
of World War II on these mountains.
From
Lizzano, the route coninues along a bridge over the stream Lima
and climbs up on road SS no. 12 in Cutigliano. From there are two
possible ways to reach Doganaccia: by cable car or following the
asphalt road for about 14 km, going through Melo and Le Roncacce
(where there is a farm holiday resort)
