Locust-tree (Robinia pseudoacacia): Imported from America
in 1600 by Robin, a gardener whose name the plant takes after. It can
grow to a height of 15 metres and is easily recognizable by its dome-shaped
foliage. The bark has crack running lengthwise while the branches have
smooth bark, covered by thorns. It has plenty of small, light green leaves.
During spring its white flowers give off a pungent sweet perfume that
attracts bees.
Suspended
bridge: this is a rope bridge crossing the stream Lima. It is 200
metres long, just under 2 metres in width and it is suspended at a height
of 36 metres. It is made of metal grating and steel cables, with no central
support. It was built in 1922 (by the company Metallurgica Italiana) to
improve connections for the workers living in Popiglio who worked in the
mines in Mammiano Basso. Nowadays the bridge only has tourist importance.
