The trout found in the Lima (Trutta fario), which can grow up to 60 cm in length, has a dark green or grey back, speckled with black or red dots and a blue or pink circles. It lives in waters with plenty of oxygen and with a temperature not higher than 18°C, feeding on insect, small fish and eggs.

Mills: nowadays only derelict ruins can be found. It is however possible to find well preserved grindstones and canal system connecting the mills.




Verginine: these are ancient shrines with sacred images, placed along processional paths, which spread out from the parish to the town. Both the parish of Saint Mary and the processionals belong the Museum of Sacred Art and Popular Religiousness in the project of the Mountain Eco-museum of Pistoia (info: Cultural Office of Pistoia, phone +39-0573-97461 during office hours or e-mail ecomuseo@provincia.pistoia.it ).

Locust-tree (Robinia pseudoacacia): Imported from America in 1600 by Robin, a gardener whose name the plant takes after. It can grow to a height of 15 metres and is easily recognizable by its dome-shaped foliage. The bark has crack running lengthwise while the branches have smooth bark, covered by thorns. It has plenty of small, light green leaves. During spring its white flowers give off a pungent sweet perfume that attracts bees.



Suspended bridge: this is a rope bridge crossing the stream Lima. It is 200 metres long, just under 2 metres in width and it is suspended at a height of 36 metres. It is made of metal grating and steel cables, with no central support. It was built in 1922 (by the company Metallurgica Italiana) to improve connections for the workers living in Popiglio who worked in the mines in Mammiano Basso. Nowadays the bridge only has tourist importance.
